Practice May 13-18
Hi everyone, great work today! Here is what I would like for you to practice this week.
Sebastian- Thanks for getting you packet printed out! This week, have a look at Lesson 3 and review reading through those rhythms. Also, please look at Lesson 4 beats 1-12. Try to find where notes do and don’t line up to help you play each one.
Ella- Get Rylan up to full tempo this week (146 BPM). For the disco sheet, try to get the top 4 lines to 60 bpm to the quarter note, and the bottom two lines to 90 bpm to the eighth note. Listen to Breezeblocks a bunch so you can get really familiar with the structure of the song and pick out a bit of how the beat goes.
Jonah- Hi Jonah! Here is a link the packet for you to print out. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/12q21Pa0ouqLu4ufYaFwdcrPqMH-Sdn3A/view?usp=sharing). And here is the link to the song maker we used in the lesson (https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/). Please use this tool to make some cool songs! You can even save them and show them to your friends and family.
Noah- This week, try to gedt the entire disco page to 100 on the metronome. In addition, here is a link to the song maker we saw in the lesson (https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/). You can make some really cool music with it and save it to listen later!
Sylvie- This week, try to get the entire disco page to 80 bpm. If some of them are too tricky to get full speed now (especially the bottom two lines) then leave those a bit slower.
Koel- This week, try to focus on playing with good time. Make sure to always be subdividing and listening to the metronome. To help with this, practice the top 4 lines of the disco page at different tempos (only fast enough that it is comfortable).
Samson- This week, try to get Lesson 7 beats 1-12 to 94 bpm. Make sure you listen to the metronome and line up every note with a consistent hi hat. Sounded great yesterday!
Thanks for reading, I’ll see you all next week!

May 6-11 Practice
Hi everyone! Great job from you all today, thanks for putting in the time to work on this material! Here is what I would like for you to work on this week.
Sebastian- Here is the packet for you to print out (https://drive.google.com/open?id=12q21Pa0ouqLu4ufYaFwdcrPqMH-Sdn3A). This week, try to learn all of the beats in Lesson 3. Practice with a metronome and try to work up to 90 over the week. You can use the one on the drum kit or on any device.
Ella- This week, try to finish the Disco page and get it up to 90 bpm. Spend some time listening to Rylan and try to pick up the form of the song and the beats you hear. I’ll have sheet music for next time so we can work on it.
Jonah- If you get a chance, print out this packet so we can start working through it (https://drive.google.com/open?id=12q21Pa0ouqLu4ufYaFwdcrPqMH-Sdn3A).
Noah- This week, try to get the whole disco page to 100 bpm. Also if you get a chance, it would be great if you could change your audio settings following these instructions. It is sometimes hard to hear. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound
Sylvie- This week, try getting the disco page to 80. Next week we will start the lesson with improvisation so we don’t run out of time. Here is the link again the those online musical experiments https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/.
Koel- Try to get disco beats 1-10 up the 80 bpm to the quarter note. This might be particularly difficult with the double kick beats, so use number 10 as a warm up to help build speed.
Samson- This week, finish Lesson 6 and practice the whole page with a metronome. Set it to a speed that feels comfortable, then gradually increase it over the week. Also, it would be very helpful if you ccould adjust your audio settings as it says here https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound.
Thanks a lot everyone I will see you next week!!

STICK CONTROL
George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control is the bible of drumming. In 1993, Modern Drummer magazine named the book one of the top 25 books of all-time. In the words of the author, it is the ideal book for improving: control, speed, flexibility, touch, rhythm, lightness, delicacy, power, endurance, preciseness of execution and muscular coordination, with extra attention given to the development of the weak hand.
4-Way Coordination
Rockin' Bass Drum, Bk 1
Written in two volumes, these books include 2- and 4- bar rock and jazz-rock beats designed for the modern drummer. Both books are designed to develop the drummer’s skill in coordinating their hands and feet. The books also offer the drummer a repertoire of exciting rhythmic patterns.
